My Devastating Diagnosis
Hi All - In May 2022, I had ten days of the runs, and I thought it was a nasty bug. I wasn't getting better; my abdomen filled up with fluid, and my sister took me to the medical center - then to the ED. That night, after blood tests and a CT scan, the doctor asked us into a private room, where they told me I had advanced OC.
Hearing the news
My twin sister collapsed to the floor - she was more affected than I was. Other family members drove to the hospital and took her home. I remember that night alone in the hospital, just wondering how long I had left. I had Stage 3C HGSOC - like so many others, my symptoms were attributed to peri-menopause - I was 56 at diagnosis.
One step at a time
After the six chemos and successful surgery (complete hysterectomy, oophorectomy, omentum removed, scraped cancer off bowel, liver, and cut a hole in my diaphragm), I made it to remission by Christmas. I've now been in remission for one year and eight months, and I'm SO happy to be alive.
