September 25: NOCC Together in Teal Event

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and is the biggest fundraising event for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Saturday, September 25, there will be a national event called "Together in Teal Everywhere as ONE". The event will be Live Streamed and starts at 7pm EST.

The National Broadcast Celebration

This year NOCC is connecting to all of those affected by Ovarian Cancer and naming the campaign: Everywhere As ONE. Due to COVID-19 this will be a virtual broadcast that will feature caregivers and survivors. This is NOCC's flagship fundraising event. Their goal is to raise $150,000.

The National Broadcast Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 7pm (EDT), 6pm (CDT), 5pm (MDT), 4pm (PDT).

Who is NOCC?

The NOCC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save lives through the prevention and cure of ovarian cancer and to improve the quality of life for survivors and their caregivers.

Just a few of the free services that NOCC provides to women going through active treatment or survivorship from ovarian cancer include:

  1. One-on-one counseling provided by BetterHelp
  2. Monthly group support meetings via Zoom
  3. Meal services for women undergoing active treatment
  4. Caregiver support groups
  5. Monthly webinars featuring education from oncologists, nutritionists, and/scientists.

Why I'm supporting the NOCC

Since I rang the Victory Bell in December 2020, I reached out to the NOCC for their counseling services. I received one-and-one counseling through BetterHelp and am a member of the Long Island NOCC chapter. I've been attending the monthly meetings via Zoom and have made new friends through the NOCC.

It was so easy making contact with someone affiliated with NOCC and they are very responsive to all communication (email, text, or phone). I was so relieved that someone returned my call, email, or text. I have felt so supported and want to make other women aware of the NOCC.

Everywhere as ONE takes place on September 24

From the NOCC website here is a snippet of what the NOCC wants you to know about the Everyone as ONE event:

"Join us for the 2021 Together in TEAL® - Everywhere As ONE event as we come together in communities across the country and use our voices to bring awareness and support to men and women in our TEAL community.

We are taking our most popular challenges from last year and adding a new set of fun, engaging and easy-to-share challenges that anyone can take on, anywhere across the nation. From turning your social pages TEAL to getting your pets behind our cause, we've got something for everyone. And the most dynamic images, messages, and videos will be featured on the National Broadcast Celebration.

All of the fundraising, engaging activities, and social media connections lead to Saturday, September 25th. On that day, we'll invite the entire TEAL nation to head out with your team, family, friends, and loved ones for a walk, run, bike, or hike that morning. Get active at whatever level you are comfortable with and share your experience with our community online.

On the evening of September 25th, people from coast to coast will gather as families, teams, and small groups to watch our National Broadcast Celebration. The broadcast will feature inspiring stories and live connections from across our TEAL nation from passionate fundraisers, survivors, volunteers, partners, and those honoring a loved one. It is the biggest gathering of the year for our ovarian cancer community, and you won't want to miss it!"
